The 'War in Context' Research Hub
Established in 2019, within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Auckland, the War in Context research hub is a cross-cultural and trans-disciplinary research collaboration focused on exploring the relationship between war and society across a number of historical contexts, ranging from the ancient world to the modern day. The scholars involved look to share their research interests and bring their expertise relating to warfare to bear on a range of key questions, including (at least currently) the role played by weaponry and technology in warfare, the ethics of war, the memory and cultural impact of war, and the relationship between warfare and economic systems. Altogether, the group’s focus is on studying how human societies respond(ed) to war and the imprint left by war on communities and institutions. We aim to do so across a wide range of time (from the ancient past to the present) and applying various disciplinary approaches.
